About Adoption

There are so many amazing ways to welcome the fatherliess into your lives, and adoption is just one of the many options.  Not all of us will bring home a new daughter or son through adoption, but we should all be thinking about how we can be the hands and feet of this super amazing calling to love the widows and orphans.

We chose to adopt a "waiting child," but these aren't the only kiddos that need homes.

What is the "waiting child" process?
The overview for our agency can be found here.

For our family, the items in red are complete (a brief summary:)
  • We started with the agency qualification check list.
  • We went through our list of conditions we were willing to accept with our match consultant
  • We were matched with Yinghe (David) who was in their specific agency listings.
  • We went through a medical review of his file
  • We sent our Letter of Intent to China
  • We received confirmation of our letter of intent... and then the paperwork started.
  • We did a homestudy (with this agency)
  • We did our official Hague Training for the adoption and attending an amazing conference on attachment parenting for traumatized kiddos.
  • We filled out all the paperwork for our Dossier (and filled some out twice)
  • We applied for USCIS approval and received it
  • We certified and authenticated all the paperwork for our dossier (which means all documents are notarized, sent to the secretary of state for a seal, and then the Chinese consulate)
  • The dossier is translated
  • The dossier is sent to China and issued a log in date (hopefully soon after arrival)
  • Final Letter seeking confirmation from the Chinese government will be issued.
  • Provisional approval will be granted
  • We await final approval and are issued a travel date
  • We are in China for aprox. 21 days
  • We will finalized our Adoption in China.
